अंग्रेजी भाषा में This का अर्थ होता है – यह. इसी प्रकार That का अर्थ होता है – वह. स्पष्ट है कि इन दोनों शब्दों का प्रयोग एकवचन कर्ता के रूप में होता है.

ये दोनों ही Demonstrative Pronouns (संकेतवाचक सर्वनाम)/ Demonstrative 

Adjectives (संकेतवाचक विशेषण) हैं.

इन दोनों के साथ एकवचन संज्ञा (singular noun) तथा एकवचन क्रिया (singular verb) का प्रयोग होता है.

Example :-

1. Is this not a table. (क्या यह एक मेज़ नहीं है।)
2. Is this not a pen. (क्या यह एक पैन नहीं है।)
3. Is this not a book. (क्या यह एक किताब नहीं है।)
